It's not everyday that you meet a legend

Serendipity was the call of the day. This was shot at the Greater LA show last May during the same weekend as the Fish Fry. I was on the L to Manhattan when I looked up to see a familiar face. I introduced myself then Richard asked what I was up to. I mentioned the show and he decided to come along to check it out. Epic!

  1. What a cool guy. There is an interesting article in the current Surfer's Journal. The author tries to retrace some of Bob Simmons' early trips to Hawaii in the 1950's, in the process of sorting out who might have been the first to ride a wave at Pipe. Kenvin also gets a mention, as one would expect.

I'm still drooling over the Simster.

  2. You can also find a lengthy and interesting bio piece about Simmons with many details and quotes from people that knew him at: files.legendarysurfers.com/surf/legends/ls15.shtml

    1. Right on! When I think of the great shapers that really inform the surfing I'm interested in, it's Bob Simmons, George Greenough and Steve Lis.
